CFP Green Buildings celebrates 1 year as a B Corp: a look back with Nanda Verschoor

This month marks a special milestone: CFP Green Buildings has been officially certified as a B Corp for exactly one year! Over the past year, we have not only gained external recognition for our impact but have also grown internally as an organisation. What has this certification meant for CFP? What challenges did we face? And what are the concrete effects after one year? We look back with Nanda Verschoor, the driving force behind our B Corp certification.

Why B Corp?

CFP is a mission-driven company dedicated to creating sustainable buildings and a better world. According to Nanda, becoming a B Corp was a logical step: “To me, CFP and its products stand for a better world. That’s why I felt it was important to have this externally validated. B Corp is the most comprehensive certification we could achieve, and it goes beyond sustainability – it also focuses on social impact, transparency, and responsible business practices. When CFP started this journey in 2021, it was more than just a checklist. It became an opportunity for reflection: are we really as good as we think we are?”

The biggest challenge in the certification process

Although CFP’s products and services are largely data-driven, collecting data turned out to be a challenge in the certification process. Many decisions were made implicitly, without proper documentation. “We had to justify, for example, why we choose local suppliers. This pushed us to create more structure, but without losing our flexibility. Change can sometimes meet resistance, but the great thing was that colleagues quickly took ownership of the new approach.”

What does B Corp mean for CFP and its clients?

The B Corp certification provides CFP with an official label that underscores our mission. For clients, it offers extra reassurance that we don’t just advise on sustainability but also apply it within our own operations. Nanda: “Our clients can now be sure that they are working with a company that not only promotes sustainability but also actively practices it.”

Visible impact after one year

B Corp has become fully integrated into CFP’s way of working, according to Nanda. “Within the management team, the question “How does B Corp approach this?” is being asked more frequently, helping to guide decisions on employee benefits, procurement, and office space. The certification has also increased our appeal as an employer. Several job applicants found us through the B Corp register, and one of them is now a valued member of our team.”

Advice for companies considering B Corp certification

B Corp is not just a checklist—it’s a growth process. According to Nanda, it’s essential to embrace the journey: “See it as an opportunity to grow as an organisation. The process can be confronting, but that’s exactly what makes it valuable. Involve your employees early on—they are the ones who carry the mission forward and ensure that B Corp has a real impact.”

The future: where will CFP be in five years?

The ambitions are high. Nanda sees opportunities in AI and collaboration with banks, installers, and property owners to accelerate sustainability efforts even further. “In five years, I hope we will have not only made buildings more sustainable but also inspired other companies to become B Corps. How great would it be if we could set the entire sector in motion?”

With one year of B Corp behind us and an ambitious vision for the future, CFP Green Buildings remains committed to driving sustainable progress. Here’s to many more years of B Corp!
