CFP Green Buildings, in collaboration with the Unica Foundation, has successfully completed the clean drinking water project in Nepal through the Latauli WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiative in Chitwan district. This impactful project has provided over 398 individuals across six communities with access to clean drinking water, improved sanitation, and new opportunities for sustainable kitchen gardening.
In Latauli and surrounding villages, access to clean water was previously a daily struggle. Many residents were forced to fetch water from distant sources, consuming valuable time and energy. With the completion of the clean drinking water project in Nepal, 60 newly installed taps connected to eight reservoirs now supply clean water directly to homes. Each reservoir is protected by secure fencing to ensure the safety of children and livestock. This new system has drastically reduced the time spent on water collection and improved the overall quality of life for the community.
“We have overcome our problems. We have water in our house for 24 hours, we don’t need to run to fetch the water up the hill. We can now prepare food and send children to school on time. This project has changed our daily lives.”
The project also placed a strong emphasis on health and sustainability. In partnership with Shanti Griha Nepal, a series of health and sanitation awareness workshops were held, educating villagers on the importance of hygiene, water purification, and waste management. Additionally, 63 households received training in kitchen gardening, empowering them to grow nutritious vegetables at home, improving food security, and promoting healthier diets.
Despite challenges such as monsoon-related delays, the community’s dedication was key to the project’s success. Local residents contributed unskilled labor and materials, while Kalika Municipality provided skilled workers and resources. A dedicated construction committee was formed within the community to oversee the project, ensuring local involvement and accountability.
To ensure long-term sustainability, a repair and maintenance workshop was conducted, equipping locals with the technical skills to maintain the water system. A revolving fund was also established, enabling the community to manage repairs independently in the future.
CFP Green Buildings is proud to support projects like Latauli WaSH, which bring lasting positive change to communities in need. We are especially proud of the Unica Foundation, whose 100th project we recently supported, significantly improving the lives of even more people in Nepal.
