Innovation in ‘The fishbowl’: Inspiring pitches at the 22nd CFP Innovation Day

During the 22nd CFP Innovation Day, sustainable innovations took centre stage in Room 2, ‘The Fishbowl.’ Eight pitchers shared their groundbreaking ideas with an audience of sustainability experts and real estate professionals. The innovation day provided a platform for circular solutions, smart energy management, and data-driven sustainability, creating palpable energy in the room and leading to lively discussions and new collaborations.

Read here what happened in Room 1, ‘t Wiel.

Circular solutions for waste and material use

1. Unwaste. – Bart Aupers

Bart Aupers from Unwaste. set the tone with his vision on waste. He transforms coffee grounds and orange peels into circular products such as scrub bars, completely changing the perception of waste. Unwaste. has already seen success at locations like Schiphol, where their products enhanced the customer experience by 10%.

2. Plastic Soup Future – Marton Panis

Plastic Soup Future perfectly aligned with Unwaste’s message with their innovative approach to plastic recycling. Marton Panis explained how they “reincarnate” plastic rather than simply recycling it. From desktops to flooring, their products offer sustainable alternatives to wood. Their cooperative approach encourages collaboration with construction companies to amplify their impact.

Innovations in energy management and air quality

3. Biosphere Solar – Tim Kaasjager

Tim Kaasjager from Biosphere Solar highlighted an urgent issue: pollution from discarded solar panels. His solution, circular solar panels that can be easily dismantled, prevents valuable materials from being lost. Cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam are already embracing this technology, and Tim is seeking new partners to further strengthen the circular economy.

4. Lumosa – Jur Raedts

Jur Raedts from Lumosa contributed to this theme with a focus on energy optimisation. He presented their advanced sports and area lighting that minimises energy consumption and reduces light pollution. With DC-to-DC microgrid solutions, Lumosa aims to use energy more directly and efficiently, complementing the energy-saving initiatives of Biosphere Solar.

Healthy and sustainable building systems

5. TakeAir – Gerry van Riet

Gerry van Riet from TakeAir focused on another aspect of sustainable buildings: indoor air quality. By introducing microbial diversity into ventilation systems, TakeAir improves air quality by 30%. This leads to a healthier indoor climate and higher employee productivity. Additionally, the system can contribute to energy savings of 20-25%, making it an appealing addition to the innovations of Lumosa and Biosphere Solar.

6. Aalberts – Diem Kemper & Hester Leverstein

Hester and Diem from Aalberts built on this with their innovative HVAC solutions. They presented systems such as degassing units and plastic underfloor heating, designed to enhance efficiency beyond the boiler. Their BREEAM Outstanding-certified factory showcases that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.

Sustainability in reporting and data

7. Act, Show, Prove – Sebastiaan de Voogt

Sebastiaan de Voogt from Act, Show, Prove brought together technology and transparency with a blockchain-based application that helps companies substantiate their sustainability claims. This prevents greenwashing and offers businesses a reliable way to demonstrate their impact. This idea aligns well with CFP Green Buildings’ approach to making sustainability measurable and accessible.

8. CFP Green Buildings – Inge Westerink

Finally, Inge Westerink from CFP shared valuable best practices for the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). Her key advice? Start early, as the process truly takes time, and ensure a thorough cost analysis. It’s crucial to have the right people at the table, both internally and externally. Tools like the ESG Scorecard, BREEAM and WELL certifications, and CFP’s CSRD/materiality analysis can support this. CFP assists organisations in developing an ESG strategy that complies with the CSRD and provides insight into the data points that need reporting. Thanks to the data made available by CFP’s tools, property owners find it much easier to meet their reporting obligations.

Innovation that connects and inspires

The CFP Innovation Day showcased how different sustainable innovations complement and strengthen each other. From material reuse to energy efficiency and data-driven reporting, every pitch contributed to the broader goal of sustainability. After the session, many ideas were exchanged, new connections were made, and even the first collaborations were established. This proves that the CFP Innovation Day is more than just a platform for ideas; it’s a catalyst for sustainable change.
